Wood For Refugee Warmth
Prevent Syrian refugee families from freezing this winter!
As we enjoy our comfy homes, thousands of Syrian refugees in northern Jordan continue to live in ramshackle shelters of plastic sheet, billboard canvases, fabric curtains, and exposed cinder blocks which make it exceedingly cold and often wet throughout each winter.
Their dwellings do little more than shield them from the wind, as long as the hostile wind itself does not destroy them during the common, thunderstorms. The frailty of their homes can be seen in the image below, showing one that collapsed upon a displaced family one night.
Wood stoves are then the most common form of heating the refugees’ homes in these frigid conditions. If wood can not be found as fuel, however, waste plastic is sometimes used by necessity even though it produces toxic smoke.
So, to keep refugee families warm this winter, while also allowing them to cook hot meals and stay healthy, we are seeking your empathy and support to supply families with wood for their stoves.
We are working with our trusted NGO partner, the Jabal ZamZam Association in Al Mafraq, Jordan, to facilitate the wood purchase and distribution project, which should provide fuel for over 100 families through mid March of this year.
