When the floods swept through Sri Lanka, they did more than wash away homes — they washed away livelihoods. Entire communities lost their tools, their stock, their small shops, and the fragile means by which they earned daily bread. Fishermen lost boats. Vendors lost carts. Widows lost the only source of income that once protected their children from hunger.
An Empowerment Initiative by Hidden Humanity – Sri Lanka
When the floods swept through Sri Lanka, they did more than wash away homes — they washed away livelihoods.
Entire communities lost their tools, their stock, their small shops, and the fragile means by which they earned daily bread. Fishermen lost boats. Vendors lost carts. Widows lost the only source of income that once protected their children from hunger.
Hidden Humanity responded with emergency relief.
Now, we are responding with something even more powerful: restoration of dignity, independence, and livelihood.
We are launching a long-term Empowerment Initiative designed to move flood-affected families from dependency to sustainability — placing the tools of self-reliance directly into their hands.
Three Livelihood Projects – Three Pathways to Independence
Each project below is designed to generate immediate daily income while rebuilding economic stability at the household level.
1. Food & Snack Carts
Cost per family: $600
We provide a fully equipped food/snack cart, allowing families to sell:
-
Fresh fruit
-
Traditional sweets
-
Snacks
-
Simple fast food items
These carts operate in busy village lanes, near schools, mosques, temples, and market routes.
Daily earning potential:
$5–$8 per day
Enough to feed a family, send children to school, and begin saving again.
This is not charity — it is a livelihood restored.
2. Mobile Village Supply Bicycles
Cost per family: $400
-
$300 for bicycle & scale
-
$100 for starter inventory
We provide a bicycle fitted with a large cargo basket and weighing scale, stocked with essential household goods such as:
-
Utensils
-
Kitchenware
-
Basic household items
-
Small daily necessities
-
Groceries
These mobile vendors travel between remote villages — communities with no access to city markets — bringing essential items directly to doorsteps.
Villagers depend on these bikes.
And the families who run them earn with dignity.
Daily earning potential:
$5–$8 per day
3. Home-Based Widow Shops
Cost per family: $600
This project focuses on widows who have lost the sole breadwinner of their household.
We transform a portion of their home into a small neighborhood shop by providing:
-
Shelving
-
Labor for setup
-
Initial inventory
-
Essential retail supplies
From their own homes, these women serve local communities while supporting their children — without leaving their families unattended.
This project restores security, stability, and dignity to some of the most vulnerable families in Sri Lanka.
Why This Matters
Emergency aid feeds a family for a day.
Empowerment feeds them for a lifetime.
Every cart, bicycle, and home shop becomes:
-
A source of income
-
A shield against future disasters
-
A path back to independence
Your support does not just rebuild businesses —
it rebuilds futures.
Be the Reason a Family Rises Again

Where this campaign stands today
Raised, deployed, and items delivered are sourced from the same ledger_entries table our finance team reconciles against. The numbers below match the admin transparency view exactly.
Updated live from the public ledger.
A monthly commitment is the most efficient gift you can give us.
Recurring donors stay with us 5× longer than one-time givers, which means we can plan distributions, lock vendor pricing, and stand by communities through the quiet seasons — not just the headline crises.
