Lana and Layan are two Syrian sisters, aged 21 and 15, who are both living with severe paralysis and require constant care.
Lana’s symptoms first began while the family was living in Syria, where she experienced severe epileptic seizures. Although she was examined by a neurologist in Damascus and underwent an MRI scan, doctors were unable to determine the cause of her condition. Her health continued to deteriorate, and she is now completely paralyzed, unable to see, and unable to speak.
After the family fled Syria and sought refuge in Turkey, Lana’s younger sister, Layan, began developing similar symptoms. Although her condition appeared later, she has now reached a comparable stage of paralysis. Layan retains limited vision but is also unable to move independently.
Caring for two daughters with such extensive needs has placed an enormous emotional and financial burden on the family. Their father works and does everything he can to provide for them, but his income is not enough to cover the family’s rent, medical needs, food, utilities, and daily living expenses.
The family’s situation has become even more difficult due to the rising cost of living and severe inflation in Turkey. Their landlord has recently increased their rent, placing their home at further risk.
Hidden Humanity would like to help provide the family with stable housing by covering their monthly rent.
