Her Right to Learn: Keep an All-Girls School Open in Kabul for One Year

Goal: $6,000

In Afghanistan today, girls are not allowed to continue their school after the sixth grade. Afghanistan is the only country in the world where secondary and higher education is effectively closed to girls and women, and more than 2.6 million girls have been denied access to secondary school in the five years since the de facto authorities took power.

But in Kabul, a small school is refusing to let that be the end of the story.

A Classroom That Says "Not Here"

Every week, between 65 and 99 girls come through its doors. To reach as many students as possible, classes run in different shifts across different days, so the school can serve far more girls than one classroom normally could. Most of the students are older girls, the very girls who have been told their schooling is over. Some of them are orphans, who have already lost so much and now hold on to learning as the one thing that is still theirs.

Five dedicated women teachers show up for them week after week. They teach, they encourage, and they remind every student that her mind matters and her future is worth fighting for.

What the Girls Are Learning

Today, the girls are taught mostly religious subjects alongside some secular education. Our aim is to keep the school open and steadily bring in more secular subjects, giving these girls the knowledge and skills they need to build careers, support their families and shape their futures.

Why We Need You

This school runs on just $500 a month, which covers the rent for the classroom and the salaries of its five teachers. Hidden Humanity is raising $6,000 to keep the doors open for a full year.

That is less than $100 per student for an entire year of education.

What Your Gift Does

$25 helps keep the classroom open for another week of lessons $50 helps pay a teacher who is giving girls back their future $100 covers a full year of schooling for one girl $500 keeps the entire school running for one whole month $6,000 keeps the school open for a full year for every student and every teacher

More Than a School

This is an opportunity to change the status quo. Every lesson taught in this classroom is proof that women and girls in Afghanistan can, and will, get an education. Every girl who learns to read, write and think for herself becomes a future teacher, doctor, mother and leader who will shape her country for generations.

They have the courage to keep learning. All they need is for us to keep the doors open.
