Empower a Fisherman, Sustain a Family — Canoe Project in Eastern Sri Lanka
In the coastal villages of Sri Lanka’s Eastern Province, skilled fishermen are struggling—not from lack of ability, but from lack of opportunity. Though they possess the knowledge and techniques to catch over 6–7 kg of fish daily, they are forced to work as hired hands, waiting for others to offer them a chance to go out to sea. These irregular jobs pay too little to cover even the most basic needs of their families.
STUDENT VOICES FOR HUMANITY
In the coastal villages of Sri Lanka’s Eastern Province, skilled fishermen are struggling—not from lack of ability, but from lack of opportunity.
Though they possess the knowledge and techniques to catch over 6–7 kg of fish daily, they are forced to work as hired hands, waiting for others to offer them a chance to go out to sea. These irregular jobs pay too little to cover even the most basic needs of their families.
But we can change that.
The Fisherman Canoe Project
With your support, we aim to provide canoes (fishing boats) to deserving fishermen, enabling them to fish independently and consistently. This means:
• Reliable income to cover daily family expenses (2 Families)
• Dignity through self-reliance
• Utilization of their full fishing skills, no longer wasted waiting for a call to work
Cost of One Canoe: $550
Each canoe will be:
• Officially registered under the name of the fisherman with the Sri Lanka Fisheries Department
• Distributed through local fishermen’s associations, with approvals from government officials and stakeholders
• Monitored for proper usage and ownership transparency
This ensures fair selection, zero disputes, and maximum impact for each donation.
Why This Project Matters
• Alleviates poverty through sustainable livelihood
• Empowers skilled individuals with the tools they need to succeed
• Builds resilient fishing communities supported by structure and oversight
Give a Canoe. Gift a Future.
Donate now and be part of a project that restores dignity and stability to families, one boat at a time.
$550 = 1 Canoe = 2 Family Sustained

Where this campaign stands today
Raised, deployed, and items delivered are sourced from the same ledger_entries table our finance team reconciles against. The numbers below match the admin transparency view exactly.

A monthly commitment is the most efficient gift you can give us.
Recurring donors stay with us 5× longer than one-time givers, which means we can plan distributions, lock vendor pricing, and stand by communities through the quiet seasons — not just the headline crises.
