SVH- Nursing Mothers Initiative in Gaza

Bookkept under Hidden Humanity

This project aims to significantly enhance the health and welfare of vulnerable newborns in Gaza by providing them with a safe and nutritious source of breast milk.

Student Voices for Humanity

The ongoing conflict in Gaza has led to a severe humanitarian crisis, particularly affecting pregnant women and newborns. As reported by the World Health Organization (WHO) in November 2023, approximately 50,000 pregnant women reside in Gaza, with more than 180 childbirths occurring daily. Prior to the escalation of hostilities, malnutrition was already a significant concern among this population, adversely affecting the survival and development of children. The deteriorating conditions, characterized by limited access to food and clean water, present a grave threat to both mothers and their infants.

In response to this crisis, Hidden Humanity, in collaboration with Rivers of Mercy, is launching a project aimed at delivering essential support to mothers and babies. Although UN agencies and various fundraising initiatives have endeavored to provide much-needed formula for newborns, particularly those who have been orphaned, these efforts fail to address the critical issues of inadequate clean water and sanitation. In such dire circumstances, breastfeeding emerges as the optimal solution.

The primary objective of this initiative is to implement a wet nursing program in Gaza, which will offer vital assistance to mothers and their infants. This program is designed to identify and support lactating mothers, including those who are displaced or mourning the loss of their own children, who can contribute breast milk to critically ill or separated newborns. Participants will also receive essential supplies, including food hampers and hygiene kits, to ensure their own health and well-being.

This project aims to significantly enhance the health and welfare of vulnerable newborns in Gaza by providing them with a safe and nutritious source of breast milk. Furthermore, it empowers mothers by allowing them to care for others while receiving the necessary support during this challenging time. To ensure that every newborn has access to this vital resource, we aim to raise $15,000.
